Paramedic Program Application
Applications for 25-26 MVHS EMS Paramedic class is now closed. Any applications after june 1st will be held for 26-27 paramedic class.
The Mohawk Valley Health System Paramedic Program is offered at the Education & Training Center at MVHS EMS Education, 14 Foery Drive, Utica, NY 13501, with classes starting each August and concluding the following June.
MVHS Paramedic Program is Nationally Accredited and offers students the opportunity to earn their EMS/Paramedic AAS Degree through Mohawk Valley Community College. Graduates are provided with the education necessary to function in the pre-hospital
environment as an emergency medical services professional.
The 21st century Paramedic provides immediate and often life-saving emergency medical care to patients while on-scene and during transport to medical facilities.
Successful graduates will be eligible for New York State Certification as well as certification with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
Program Goals:
To prepare Paramedics who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.

Robert Paddock
Robert Paddock has been a co-instructor of Mohawk Valley Health System Paramedic Program for the last 19 years. Bob is a 2001 graduate of the Paramedic Program and taught numerous Basic and Critical Care classes before joining the program as an instructor. Bob has been in the fire service and EMS for over 40 years and retired from the Ilion Fire Department as Fire Chief/Paramedic. He remains active as a part time Firefighter/Paramedic with the Ilion Fire Department and is also a member of the Ilion Volunteer Fire Department. Bob is a 1984 graduate of HCCC and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY IT in 1986. He also completed his Master’s Degree in Postsecondary and Adult Education from Capella University. Bob is also the Chairperson of the Midstate REMSCO Education Committee and serves as a Regional Faculty member for New York State.

David Paddock
David Paddock has been a co-instructor of Mohawk Valley Health System Paramedic Program for the past 19 years. He has been involved in EMS education for more than 30 years instructing every level from Certified First Responder through Critical Care Technician. He is a 1994 graduate of Faxton St. Luke’s Paramedic Program and has been actively practicing EMS for the past 38 years. Dave is a graduate of Utica College with a BA in history and he completed his Master’s Degree in Postsecondary and Adult Education from Capella University. Dave retired as a Deputy Fire Chief/Paramedic from the Ilion Fire Department and remains active as a Firefighter/Paramedic with the Ilion Fire Department. Dave is also a member of the Ilion Volunteer Fire Department, the Midstate REMSCO, and serves as a Regional Faculty Member for New York State.

Erik Merrell
Erik Merrell has been the Lab Coordinator of Mohawk Valley Health System Paramedic Program for the past 7 years. He has been involved in EMS education for 25 years starting off as a lab evaluator, Certified Lab Instructor and now a Certified Instructor Coordinator. He is a 2004 graduate of Mohawk Valley Health System Paramedic Program and has been actively practicing EMS for the past 25 years. In addition to the Paramedic Program Erik also teaches the day time EMT class at Mohawk Valley Health System EMS Education. Erik also serves on the Midstate REMSCO and is a member of the Education Committee.

Outcomes
The Mohawk Valley Health System Paramedic Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). Initial accreditation was achieved in 2009 and the program was re-accredited in 2014 and 2019.
As of January 1, 2016, all accredited programs are required to publish outcomes data from their Annual Report for public access on the program website. The desired threshold is 70% for all categories. The outcomes for Mohawk Valley Health System reflected in the 2023 Annual Report for accreditation are
- New York State Written Exam Results 95.1% Passing
- Retention 78.8%
- Positive Job Placement 95.1% Employed
Overall, we are very happy with our current numbers. Looking at the numbers collectively would indicate that most everyone who completes the program passes their exams and finds a job in the field.
